Mountain Biking in Colombia & Ecuador

The hair underneath my helmet and the shirt on my back is moist from the sweat seeping out of my pores. Though I’m high in the Andes of South America, it can be quite humid here in Banos, Ecuador, and the fact that I’ve been climbing in low-gear for 2 hours straight is certainly a contributing factor.

My day started normally; I woke up in my comfy corner of an organic farm, the Tungurahua Volcano towering overhead, did some yoga, ate breakfast, then weeded the crops. After my work, I descend into town on my full suspension bike, jumping curbs, exploring, and pedaling up stairs, talking to random strangers in my elementary Espagnol. It’s been a typical afternoon. However, it has quickly turned into an epic ascent of one of the mountains that surround the town.
